Wednesday April 14, 2010
SWINDON were unable to halt Poole’s stunning early season charge as the Robins suffered defeat in Dorset.

Leigh Adams topped the Robins' score-card with a bumper sixteen-point haul, but the Australian stalwart was the only Swindon rider to notch a double-figure tally.

NOTE: Under the league scoring system, Poole gained 3 points and Swindon received 0.

RED hot Poole continued their impressive start to the 2010 season by registering a 23-point victory over Swindon. The Robins trailed throughout and struggled to cope with the Pirates’ impressive strength-in-depth, which saw their lowest scoring rider weigh in with a 7-point return.

By contrast, Swindon were unable to gather any sort of positive momentum and found heat advantages hard to come by. Despite an impressive performance from super skipper Leigh Adams, who registered three race wins – including a tactical win in heat five – the remainder of the Robins’ septet were unable to notch double-figure hauls.

Simon Stead and Mads Korneliussen both contributed 6-point tallies, Morten Risager carded paid 4, whilst Polish youngster Grzegorz Zengota endured a difficult evening and failed to score.

Meanwhile, the Robins’ reserve duo of Thomas H. Jonasson and Jordan Frampton amassed a combined total of paid 5 points.

The Pirates’ score-card was headed by a 14-point contribution from a resurgent Bjarne Pedersen. The Danish International notched four heat wins and was in fine form throughout. Elsewhere, a sensational paid 13-point score from Polish reserve Artur Mroczka certainly caught the eye.

A point-share opened proceedings, as Adams recovered from a slow start to roar past the Poole duo of Chris Holder and Jason Doyle at the conclusion of the opening lap.

Heat advantages for the home side ensued in the next three races and, with Swindon trailing by 10 points, Adams was nominated for a tactical ride.

The Robins’ captain notched a 6-point heat win to narrow Poole’s lead to 7 points. However, Swindon were unable to prevent further heat advantages, as the Pirates once again extended their lead.

Later on, with Swindon trailing by 17 points, Robins’ manager Ronnie Russell nominated Korneliussen for a tactical ride in heat thirteen. But the Dane was unable to stamp his authority on the race and was fazed out by the Pirates’ pairing of Pedersen and Chris Holder.

Further heat advantages for Poole followed in the penultimate and final race, as Neil Middleditch's septet turned on the style to register a highly impressive victory.
