NOTE: Under the league scoring system, Lakeside gained 3 points and Swindon received 0.
SWINDON were unable to collect their second away win of the 2010 campaign as a well organised Lakeside septet registered victory by a fifteen point margin at their technical Arena Essex raceway.
The home side contributed a solid team effort which saw their lowest scorer, Polish International Kryzsztof Kasprzak, weigh in with a creditable eight point tally.
A poor first half of the meeting meant Swindon always struggled to minimise Lakeside’s advantage. However, the Robins rode far better in the latter stages of the tie and didn’t concede a heat advantage after race eight. Indeed, the last five heats produced 3-3 results, but Swindon’s poor start meant the home side held a comfortable advantage.
Robins’ captain Leigh Adams amassed an impressive seventeen point tally which included a tactical ride victory in his second outing.
The Australian was in superb form from the outset and displayed bundles of speed and excellent track craft throughout. His only defeat came in the concluding race when his colours were lowered by Lakeside’s Adam Shields.
Elsewhere, in-form Simon Stead contributed a well acquired paid eleven point score whilst Mads Korneliussen notched an eight point return.
However, support was thin on the ground for the Robins’ top three and the remaining four Swindon riders could only card a combined score of paid six.
Lakeside’s score-card was headed by Adam Shields and the popular Australian received solid support from the rest of the Hammers’ side.
The Hammers most potent pairing was their experienced reserve duo of Daniel Davidsson and Paul Hurry who conjured a combined total of paid nineteen.
Proceedings got underway in fine style as Robins’ captain Leigh Adams registered victory to ensure a points share. The experienced Lakeside duo of Daniel Davidsson and Paul Hurry eased to a 5-1 victory in the ensuing heat as the Hammers moved into a four point lead.
Swindon trailed by a ten point margin after heat four which prompted Robins’ chief Ronnie Russell to nominate Leigh Adams for a tactical ride. The Australian certainly didn’t disappoint as he eased to victory, but Grzegorz Zengota’s fourth placed finished meant Swindon were unable to fully maximise the opportunity.
Lakeside continued to ride strongly in the mid-part of the meeting and nurtured a fifteen point lead after the conclusion of heat eight. A tactical outing for Mads Korneliussen ensued in the following race, but the Dane was forced to settle for second spot behind Kauko Nieminen.
Amazingly, the 4-4 race result in that heat proved to be the first of seven points shares as Swindon were unable to disturb Lakeside's fifteen point cushion.
