NOTE: Under the league scoring system, Lakeside gained 1-point and Swindon received 2.

Swindon tracked a depleted squad, competing in the Elite League encounter at Purfleet without both Simon Stead and Mads Korneliussen.

The former was still suffering from an illness which hampered him during Thursday’s victory over Wolverhampton, whilst the latter was competing in a meeting in his homeland.

Despite drafting in Cameron Woodward as a guest replacement for Korneliussen, the move was vetoed prior to tapes-up. That meant Ronnie Russell’s side were forced to use junior rider Marc Owen in the No.2 position.

Stead’s absence was covered by rider replacement with all Robins’ riders eligible to cover the absence.

Indeed, Swindon shone in the face of adversity with a stand-out performance from Maciek Janowski catching the eye. The Polish youngster contributed a stunning paid fourteen point score and excelled on his first ever visit to Lakeside. The Robins’ No.4 was in the thick of the action throughout and showed experience beyond his years by quickly getting to grips with Lakeside’s mega-tight circuit.

Elsewhere, Leigh Adams amassed a superb fourteen-point score of his own whilst Morten Risager notched a solid paid eight. Fellow reserve Justin Sedgmen conjured a well deserved six-point score, whilst Grzegorz Zengota completed the impressive all-round team performance by carding seven.

Lee Richardson was the only rider to notch a double-figure haul for the home side, his eleven-point score included three race-wins.

The progressive meeting scores remained close throughout with just four-points separating the teams with two races remaining. A 5-1 in the penultimate race from Morten Risager and Maciek Janowski levelled the scores, before Adams rode brilliantly to team-ride Janowski home, holding Shields at bay and ensuring a fighting draw for the Robins.
