A scintillating eighteen-point haul from Grzegorz Zengota wasn’t enough to halt Swindon’s exit from the 2010 Knockout Cup competition.
The popular Polish youngster excelled at Peterborough and just dropped three-points to the opposition side. However, it was the Panthers’ strength in depth that prevailed as Trevor Swales’ septet overcame Swindon’s lead from the first leg of the tie.
The Robins made an encouraging start and trailed by just four points after the completion of the opening four races. However, Ronnie Russell’s side contributed a disappointing middle sector and trailed by eighteen points after the tenth.
Ultimately, Swindon were unable to recover from Peterborough’s succession of race advantages and their hopes of Knockout Cup progression began to slip away.
The aforementioned Grzegorz Zengota headed Swindon’s score-chart and received support from Robins’ captain Leigh Adams who amassed a ten-point haul.
Elsewhere, it was a disappointing night for the remainder of the Swindon team who were only able to collectively muster nine points.
Peterborough were well served by Danish International Kenneth Bjerre who amassed a paid thirteen point score, whilst Troy Batchelor also weighed in with a thirteen point contribution.
Whilst Peterborough’s all-round strength was impressive, it was the scintillating performance of Swindon’s young Polish star Grzegorz Zengota that set tongues wagging at the East of England Showground.
