NOTE: Under the league scoring system, Belle Vue gained 0 points and Swindon received 4.
SWINDON’S penultimate Elite League meeting of the 2010 campaign concluded in fine style, as the Robins contributed an impressive all-round performance in Manchester.
The Swindon top five all weighed in with strong scores, whilst a combined total of paid 10 points from the Robins’ reserve duo of Cory Gathercole and Justin Sedgmen caught the eye.
The Belle Vue management made a special presentation to Leigh Adams before the start and, in what was likely to be the Aussie star’s last domestic meeting for the Robins, he reeled off four straight wins after running a third-place behind Mads Korneliussen in the opening heat.
Indeed, the Robins’ legend rounded off proceedings in perfect fashion, with a well-deserved heat fifteen win taking his score to 13+1 points.
Elsewhere, Korneliussen’s excellently acquired a paid 14-point total saw the Dane beaten on just one occasion by an opposition rider – in heat one, when Hans Andersen took the flag
The popular Polish pairing of Grzegorz Zengota and Maciek Janowski also secured decent scores, with both once again showing great maturity in notching 7+1 and 8-point tallies, respectively.
Simon Stead recovered from a pointless first outing to notch a paid 7-point return, which included a paid win in his final ride.
Belle Vue’s score-card was headed by Patrick Hougaard, who amassed a 9-point total, whilst Swedish veteran Peter Karlsson weighed in with 8.
The Aces held the ascendancy in the early stages and nurtured an advantage until race nine. However, a final third flurry from Swindon saw Ronnie Russell’s side stamp their authority in mighty fine style.
