SWINDON are left waiting for their first victory of the new season following a 58-37 Elite League defeat at King’s Lynn.

The Robins went into the fixture at the Norfolk Arena without skipper Simon Stead and broken thigh victim Grzegorz Zengota and were always going to find it tough against an impressive Stars team.

Winter recruit Scott Nicholls did have a couple of race wins in his 15-point score and Maciej Janowski had a steady night with series of second places giving him an 11-point haul.

King’s Lynn held the upper hand in the early exchanges leading 25-17 after race 7, but then a maximum in heat 8 put some clear daylight between the two teams.

This signalled the moment for Nicholls to take a tactical ride, and the GB star dually obliged with a six-point race win ahead of Oliver Allen and Mads Korneliussen.

Unfortunately that was as good as it got for the Robins as three successive 5-1s put King’s Lynn 51-30 ahead with two races remaining.

Janowski (tactical ride) and Josh Grajczonek did then finish behind Korneliussen in heat 14 resulting in a 5-3 advantage, but it was too little too late for the visitiors.

KING’S LYNN 58: Niels Kristian Iversen 12+1, Kenneth Bjerre 11+1, Lasse Bjerre 9+2, Mads Korneliussen 8+2, Oliver Allen 8, Tomas Topinka 8, Filipe Sitera 2+1

SWINDON 37: Scott Nicholls 15, Maciej Janowski 11, Josh Grajczonek 5+2, Tomasz Chrzanowski 2+1, Jason Lyons 2, Justin Sedgmen 2, Simon Stead R/R
