WOLVERHAMPTON 48 ROBINS 42

Monday April 11, 2011
SUPER Scott Nicholls gave a stunning display for Swindon as they claimed a consolation Elite League point from their 48-42 defeat at Wolverhampton on Monday.

Nicholls, the club’s big winter signing from Ipswich, had the edge over home track specialists Freddie Lindgren and Peter Karlsson in the latter stages of the meeting on his way to a 13-point haul.

And yet the result could have been even better for the Blunsdon boys as they raced into an early lead with a maximum in the second race.

It was a solid team effort from Swindon, who were once again without Grzegorz Zengota. Club bosses remain hopeful of plugging the gap with a signing soon.

Swindon co-boss Gary Patchett said: “This was an encouraging team display and it’s nice for us to claim our first league point of the season.

“Wolverhampton is a difficult place to come and get a result and hopefully we can now build on this. Scotty was superb but there was a lot of effort from everyone tonight.”

Nicholls denied Lindgren and Karlsson maximums with his victories in heats 13 and 15.

The final race brought the evening to an exciting end, as the Robins gated, but Lindgren picked off Chrzanowski on the back straight, and Karlsson went past the Pole on lap three with Nicholls well clear.

WOLVERHAMPTON 48: Freddie Lindgren 13, Peter Karlsson 11+2, Tai Woffinden 11, Ty Proctor 4, Ricky Wells 4, Ludvig Lindgren 3+2, Tyson Burmeister 2.

SWINDON 42: Scott Nicholls 13, Tomasz Chrzanowski 8+1, Maciej Janowski 6+1, Simon Stead 5+1, Cory Gathercole 5+1, Justin Sedgmen 5, Grzegorz Zengota R/R.
