SWINDON suffered their fifth away defeat in six with a 52-44 loss against in-form Birmingham at Perry Barr.

Despite taking an excellent win at King's Lynn last time out, the Excalibur Comminications Robins were unable to put in a repeat performance in front of the Sky cameras.

And team boss Alun Rossiter was disappointed with the performance.

He said: "It was bitterly disappointing tonight. It was a very lacklustre performance aside from the top two.

"Troy and Hans both did their jobs well but the rest of the boys didn't give him the support he needed in the end.

"We're going to have to go away, make sure everyone gets their bikes sorted correctly and get our heads sorted again for the next one."

Having fallen ten behind in the opening five races, Swindon hit back through a Troy Batchelor tactical ride in Heat 6 - yet by the time Heat 11 arrived they were 13 points behind once again.

That opened the door for a second attempt at double-points with Hans Andersen - and despite suffering a heavy fall following a clash with Josh Auty he dusted himself down to keep Robins' hopes alive.

Yet they were unable to mount a late charge as second placed Birmingham took all three points.

Top two Batchelor and Andersen both led Swindon admirably with gutsy displays, whilst Peter Kildemand also posted a good return from the middle order.

Yet Eddie Kennett, Nick Morris and Cory Gathercole all experienced difficult evenings - and although Ashley Birks showed some promising signs at reserve they were unable to snatch a point.

BIRMINGHAM 52: Josh Auty 10+2, Martin Smolinski 10+1, Danny King 9, Jason Doyle 10+2, Chris Harris 7, Ben Barker 6+1, Nico Covatti 2.

SWINDON 44: Hans Andersen 15+1, Troy Batchelor 14+1, Peter Kildemand 8, Ashley Birks 4, Nick Morris 2, Edward Kennett 1, Cory Gathercole 0.
