STAND-IN Swindon boss Gary Patchett praised new signing Kyle Howarth after his 12-point haul led Swindon to a 47-42 victory at Belle Vue.

Howarth bagged three race wins with a classy display on his Excalibur Robins debut as the side took a much-needed win on the road.

And Patchett was delighted with the Robins' performance - although he reserved special praise for the talented 19-year-old.

He said: "We're very pleased with that result. We were anxious to put right the mistakes we made three weeks ago when we contrived to lose a meeting we should have won quite comfortably.

"Even with a couple of riders having off-nights on what was a very poor track, it just goes to show what a team can gain from having a reserve that scores big points.

"I'm under no illusions that Kyle will do that every week, but he certainly had a debut to be proud of.

"He settled his nerves with a great team-riding 5-1 with Ashley Birks in Heat 2, and went on to top score.

"He was comfortably our man of the match, and without his contribution we probably wouldn't be sitting here with three points in the bag. It's nice to see a plan come together."
