At a sun drenched Abbey Stadium the Robins cruised to a thirteen point victory over Peterborough and in doing so extended their lead at the top of the Elite League table.
On a night of frantic racing Swindon conjured an impressive team performance and comfortably repelled the challenge of their opponents.
A characteristically professional performance from Leigh Adams provided the backbone of Swindon’s success as the dependable Captain notched up a brilliant paid fourteen point haul.
The always improving Mads Korneliussen provided his skipper with sturdy support with an exciting paid twelve points whilst James Wright’s eye catching run of form continued with an excellent paid ten.
Elsewhere, Travis McGowan enjoyed a positive nights work with an eight point score that included two heat victories which delighted the Blunsdon crowd.
The visitor’s score-chart was headed by Danish international who acquired a hefty eighteen points from six rides whilst guest rider Ryan Fisher certainly provided ample excitement with a paid eleven point score that, was at times, erratically achieved.
Support for Andersen and Fisher proved to be minimal with the remaining four Panthers riders collecting a minimal twelve points between them.
The meeting got underway in super style as Leigh Adams and Hans Andersen indulged in an absorbing heat one jostle that eventually saw the Swindon captain prevail.
The heat one points share was replicated in race two and a resurgent James Wright rode an intelligent first corner to head the pack whilst Theo Pijper was unable to stamp his authority at the rear.
The Robins gained the ascendancy in heat three with a well worked 4-2 from Korneliussen and McGowan who were split by Daniel King. The British youngster headed Troy Batchelor home in heat four and performed well to repel the challenge of the tenacious Queenslander who experimented with an array of differing lines.
Mads Korneliussen emphasised why he is one of Denmark’s brightest prospects by defeating his established international compatriot Hans Andersen in a heat five that saw Swindon register their second 4-2 of the evening.
Alden and Adams collected a well worked 5-1 in heat six which therefore extended the Swindon lead to eight points. Two successive points shares ensued before a fantastically engineered 5-1 from McGowan and Korneliussen in heat nine bolstered the Robins lead to twelve points.
Swindon turned on the style in heat ten with a 5-1 from the lively Adams and Alden combination before Peterborough nominated Hans Andersen for a tactical ride in race eleven. The Dane didn’t disappoint and was joined out front by Ryan Fisher who rode an audacious first corner to move into to second spot and leave Troy Batchelor marooned in third spot.
The resultant 8-1 in Peterborough’s favour narrowed the Swindon lead to nine points which was maintained with a points share in heat twelve.
Andersen reigned victorious in the heat thirteen clash of the big guns as he rode a solid first corner and pulled away from the rest of the field before McGowan and Wright teamed up for a 4-2 in heat fourteen which secured the Swindon victory.
Heat fifteen was undoubtedly a contender for race of the season as a determined Leigh Adams stalked Hans Andersen for the majority of the race and nipped past the Danish rider coming off the fourth bend of the final lap. Cue scenes of jubilation from the terraces and yet more celebrations in the Swindon pits.
