SWINDON'S top of the table aspirations were dealt a huge blow as they suffered a shock 48-42 defeat at home against Belle Vue.

The Excalibur Robins endured a miserable night before eventually suffering their third home defeat of the campaign.

And team boss Alun Rossiter was far from pleased with the performance of his side.

He said: "Obviously the loss of Peter (Kildemand) was a big blow for us but I have to say Hans Andersen was well below par for us and he looked a shadow of the rider he was at the start of the season.

"It's not the result we wanted, but top spot isn't too important for us and we remain confident we can beat whoever is put in front of us in the play-offs despite this result."

Swindon were hit by the loss of Peter Kildemand early on following a horrendous smash, whilst skipper Hans Andersen also had a frustrating night.

Aussie duo Troy Batchelor and Nick Morris did impress whilst - Eddie Kennett and Kyle Howarth put in solid displays. Yet with Ashley Birks also struggling to make an impact on his return from injury, the Abbey outfit suffered disappointment.

Swindon 42: Troy Batchelor 10+1, Nick Morris 9+1, Edward Kennett 7, Kyle Howarth 6+1, Hans Andersen 5, Peter Kildemand 3, Ashley Birks 2+1
Belle Vue 48: Matej Zagar 15, Kevin Wolbert 12+1, Josh Grajczonek 10+1, Craig Cook 6+1, Kevin Doolan 5, Magnus Zetterstrom 0, Ulrich Ostergaard R/R
