LEICESTER 44 ROBINS 46

SWINDON stormed back to winning ways with a hard-fought 46-44 away win over Leicester at Beaumont Park.

The M&S Van Rental Robins quickly avenged their shock defeat against the Lions at the Abbey on Thursday to end a run of three successive defeats.

It was a battling performance from Alun Rossiter’s side – but it potentially came at a cost with Aussie ace Nick Morris taken to hospital with an ankle injury.

Team boss Rossiter was delighted to end a difficult week on a high – and he has now called on his side to improve their home form when they return to action against fellow play-off hopefuls Lakeside at the Abbey on Thursday, June 16 (7.30).

“It’s been a tough week, but we are pleased to finish on a high with a much-needed win,” Rossiter said.

“We’ve picked up 13 points away now which is excellent but only 12 at home, so we know what we have to work on moving forward.

“Full credit to the riders though, it was a tight meeting throughout but we just managed to get over the line and get the three points.

“It was a shame to lose Nick, but he’s gone back to Swindon hospital to see what the damage is. We aren’t sure at this stage if it’s broken or just sprained, so we’ll find out in the morning and keep our fingers crossed for good news.”

Skipper Jason Doyle roared to a stunning 17+1 paid maximum to lead the charge against his former club, including a decisive heat 15 triumph to seal victory.

Josh Grajczonek and Justin Sedgmen also impressed with paid double figure points hauls, whilst Morris recorded an important race win before his heat 11 crash.

Reserve duo Charles Wright and Stefan Nielsen bagged vital contributions against a strong Lions’ lower order to help swing a tight clash in favour of the Robins.

LEICESTER 44: Nicolai Klindt 10+3, Ludvig Lindgren 10+1, Josh Auty 10+1, Patrick Hougaard 9+1, Paul Starke 3+2, Aaron Summers 1, Davey Watt 1.

SWINDON 46: Jason Doyle 17+1, Justin Sedgmen 9+3, Josh Grajczonek 9+1, Nick Morris 5, Charles Wright 4, Stefan Nielsen 2+1, Rohan Tungate r/r.
