SWINDON suffered their heaviest defeat of the season as they went down 62-30 against top of the table Wolverhampton at Monmore Green.
The M&S Van Rental Robins recorded just one race win and were second best throughout on a tough evening in the West Midlands.
It was certainly a night to forget for Alun Rossiter’s side as they were undone by a powerhouse Wolves side.
Rossiter was bitterly disappointed with a below-par performance – but he is keen to see them quickly move on when they travel to King’s Lynn on Wednesday (7.30).
Said Rossiter: “I thought we’d have some ups and downs, but I didn’t ever think we’d be that bad and only have one race winner all night.
“We just kept making the same mistake in the first corner all night, because after that there wasn’t a great deal of passing.
“We just got caught on the same corner in nearly every heat – we’d go too wide and they’d say thank you very much.
“I stated before the meeting and during the meeting not to move off the inside in that first corner, but they made the same mistake all night.
“There is no good dwelling on it, we just need to move on and try to put in a good performance at King’s Lynn on Wednesday.â€
Nick Morris recorded the only Swindon race win as he took the chequered flag in heat four.
Skipper Jason Doyle top scored with nine points including a second place behind Australian compatriot Sam Masters as he took their tactical ride in heat 10.
Rohan Tungate put in a battling performance and was involved in an excellent heat 15 battle with Freddie Lindgren, whilst Justin Sedgmen added six points.
Josh Grajczonek struggled after an awkward fall in his second ride, whilst reserve duo Charles Wright and Robert Branford were comfortably outscored by their Wolves counterparts.
The Robins will now aim to bounce back from their disappointment when they head to King’s Lynn on Wednesday before hosting Belle Vue in a vital clash at the Abbey on Thursday (7.30).
WOLVERHAMPTON 62: Fredrik Lindgren 13, Sam Masters 13, Peter Karlsson 12+3, Max Clegg 10+2, Kyle Howarth 10, Jacob Thorssell 4+1, Joonas Kylmakorpi r/r. SWINDON 30: Jason Doyle 9, Rohan Tungate 6+1, Justin Sedgmen 6, Nick Morris 4, Charles Wright 4, Josh Grajczonek 1+1, Robert Branford 0.
