SWINDON Sprockets got their National Trophy campaign off to a dream start with a 47-43 win at the Isle of Wight.

Lee Kilby's side dug deep at Smallbrook to claim a hard-fought victory in their first meeting of the season.

It was an excellent night for the Curson Consulting Sprockets - and local lad Darryl Ritchings was full of praise for their young side.

"It was a great result," Ritchings said. "We told ourselves from the off we just wanted to get a win and we all dug deep to make it happen.

"It's a good start, and we'll just move on from this and hopefully have a successful year in the National Trophy."

Robins' reserve Zach Wajtknecht top scored in the No.1 spot, whilst Ritchings, Alfie Bowtell and David Wallinger all recorded race wins in the engine room of the side.

Young gun Taylor Hampshire played a starring role at reserve, whilst his lower order partner Layne Cupitt and middle order man Dan Greenwood made solid contributions to cap off a promising all-around team performance.

The Sprockets will be back in action when they host Plymouth at the Abbey next Thursday, May 11 (7.30).
