SWINDON boss Alun Rossiter conceded his side “simply weren’t good enough” as his side’s play-off hopes were dealt a blow with defeat at Wolverhampton.

The CFS Filtration Robins were only able to record one heat advantage as they went down 53-37 in the West Midlands.

Things got off to the worst possible start for the Blunsdon outfit, conceding back-to-back 5-1s in the opening two races.

And by the mid-point of the meeting, the hosts had extended their lead to 16 points.

Captain Nick Morris and former Wolves man Tobiasz Musielak were the only Robins riders to take the chequered flag for the visitors and Rossiter admits his side seem to be running out of steam at the wrong stage of the season.

“We just weren’t good enough it’s as simple as that,” Rossiter said.

“It was the same last time we were here; we came back strong right at the end but just got left at the gates the rest of the night and the damage was done in the first quarter.

“It’s not through a lack of effort but when you don’t gate in that sort of company, you don’t stand a chance.

“It’s not David’s (Bellego) favourite track and if I’m being honest, I didn’t expect anything from him.

“Troy (Batchelor) rode hard but got nowhere, Nick had a better night and Tobi got better as the meeting went on but we’re just too inconsistent.

“I know I’m probably only stating the obvious but it’s very disappointing.

“We seem to be running out of steam; we’ve been doing well all season, we’ve been in the top two more-or-less all year and when we need to be on it we’re not.

“It’s not impossible but we just have to keep giving it our very best.”

Swindon drop to fourth in the Premiership standings with just four points now separating the top six sides.

The Robins travel to fellow play-off chasers Poole on Wednesday (August 22, 7.30).

WOLVERHAMPTON 53: Jacob Thorssell 14, Sam Masters 12+1, Jonas B Andersen 9+2, Kyle Howarth 7+1, Tom Bacon 6+2, Ashley Morris 5+1, Rory Schlein R/R.

SWINDON 37: Nick Morris 13+2, Tobiasz Musielak 9+1, Adam Ellis 6, Troy Batchelor 5, Zach Wajtknecht 4+1, Jack Smith 0, David Bellego 0.
