SWINDON’S final Premiership meeting of the season will have to be re-staged after rain forced the early abandonment of Thursday’s clash with Belle Vue.

An impressive Aces side had roared into a 25-11 lead after six races with a couple of brief showers having hit the Abbey, but the match was then suspended when heavier rain fell.

When the downpour ceased, efforts were made to return the circuit to a raceable condition in order to complete the meeting, but it proved to be in vain with all parties agreeing it would not be safe to continue.

Tobiasz Musielak was the CFS Filtration Robins’ sole heat winner in the races which were possible, with the Aces recording three 5-1s out of six as Dimitri Berge proved a trump card at reserve with an unbeaten 7+2 and Craig Cook won both of his outings.

The result, however, does not stand and the match will be re-staged at a later date.

Swindon manager Alun Rossiter said: “It was a difficult position because we were getting beaten, but we did our best to get it on for them and it just wasn’t possible.

“At the end of the day the riders’ safety is paramount, and it would have just been like an ice rink where they come into the corners.

“We tried pulling it in but the problem is the straights are so long, and there’s no point pootling around for four laps just to get to Heat 10 or 11 for a result, that’s just conning everybody.

“It’s not ideal for us or Belle Vue, but it does mean the supporters have the chance of another meeting. I accept there’s nothing on it, but we don’t want to rip people off.”

Supporters are reminded to retain their re-admission tickets, and details of discount policy will be available in the near future.

The Robins are back in action on Monday (September 10) when they host King’s Lynn in the first leg of their KO Cup semi-final.

SWINDON 11: Tobiasz Musielak 5, Nick Morris 2, Adam Ellis 1+1, Troy Batchelor 1, David Bellego 1, Zach Wajtknecht 1, Jack Smith 0.
BELLE VUE 25: Dimitri Berge 7+2, Craig Cook 6, Steve Worrall 4+1, Todd Kurtz 4, Max Fricke 3, Rohan Tungate 1+1, Dan Bewley r/r.
Abandoned after Heat 6 (rain) – Result does not stand.
