POLISH ACE BACK FOR ROBINS

Friday November 30, 2018
SWINDON Speedway are delighted to confirm Rider of the Year Tobiasz Musielak will be back with the Robins next year.

The Polish star topped the end-of-season poll for 2018, in association with the Swindon Advertiser, receiving over half of the votes.

Musielak was a season-changing signing midway through 2017 as the Robins raced to the Premiership title, and he then put in a consistent first full campaign with the club this year.

He comes back on a handy 6.52 average as the Abbey side look to mount a serious play-off challenge after fading in the closing stages last time around.

Boss Alun Rossiter said: “I’m sure he can improve on that. Tobiasz is more and more settled in now, he’s had a complete full season with us and I think there’s more to come.

“He’s a rider who is easily motivated and he isn’t fazed by anybody, no matter who’s on the track, and he’s a nice guy to have around the pits.

“He was a bit quiet in the early days when he first joined us, but now he’s found his feet at a club he likes, and I think we’ll get even more benefit out of that next year.

“I know how popular he is with the fans – we were a bit concerned because it seemed that whoever won Rider of the Year didn’t come back, it looked like a bit of a poisoned chalice, so it’s good to put a stop to that!

“But it speaks volumes when the crowd have their say and vote him as Rider of the Year. He’s good to have around the club and he’s so easy to deal with.

“Really I feel the only times he’s struggled have been when he’s gone back to Poland and been made to do sparring meetings with juniors who he shouldn’t have been racing with, which would mean he’d come back a bit despondent.

“But we picked him up to get him go back out and score big points, and nine times out of ten he delivered.”

Musielak’s signing along with former World Champion Jason Doyle gives the Robins 26.18 points to play with for their remaining five riders – and Rossiter has confirmed matters are progressing well.

He added: “We’re not far away now. There are just a couple of decisions to make in the middle where we’ve got to finalise which way we go, but things are all coming together.”
