SWINDON are safely though to the Premiership play-offs despite a 48-42 defeat at Ipswich.

And it means Alun Rossiter’s men remain firmly on course for a league and cup double with the Premiership Supporters’ Cup Final starting at Belle Vue next week.

The CFS Filtration Robins boss said: “That’s one job done.

“Even though we lost, I feel with the way things are going at home we are showing that as a team we are more than capable.

“Over two legs, we stand a good chances against any team.

“Maybe we were a bit complacent, or a bit cocky – I don’t know. It didn’t seem that way.

“Rasmus (Jensen) struggled a bit, though he won his last race. Adam (Ellis) wasn’t his normal self, and Tobiasz (Musielak) got beat by James Sarjeant in his last ride.

“But that’s the way things go – wherever you end up in the play-offs, you’ve got to beat what is in front of you.

“You’ve got to beat the best to win.

“I’m not putting any stress on the team. Right now, the last thing we need to do is do something stupid.

“We need to stay fit and make sure everyone is good for when the play-offs come around.”

Swindon made a terrible start conceding a 5-1 as Niels-Kristian Iversen broke the track record with the win.

The visitors then hit back with a 4-2 in the next race as Ellis Perk won in fine style ahead of Jake Allen and Claus Vissing which cut the deficit to 7-5.

Ipswich soon extended their lead back to four points in Heat 4. Jake Allen took the victory while Troy Batchelor held off Danny King for second.

Back-to-back Witches’ heat advantages in heats 7 and 8 to put them 28-20 up.

Batchelor and Perks came up trumps in heat 9 with a 5-1 to cut the deficit to four points.

That joy was short lived as Ipswich stormed back with back-to-back 5-1’s in heats 10 and 11.

Rasmus Jensen then partnered Perks to a 5-1 in the next race which cut the gap to eight points.

Tactical substitute Batchelor secured the race win in heat 14 with Tobias Musielak secured third place in a Robins’ 4-2 cutting the deficit to six points.

The visitors knew a 3-3 in the final race would secure them a losing point & their place in the play-offs.

Doyle and Batchelor did the business in heat 15 with Doyle a comfortable second behind Iversen, Batchelor undertook Danny King for third to secure a point.
