BELLE VUE v ROBINS, PREVIEW

Wednesday September 11, 2019
SWINDON step up their chase for silverware when they visit Belle Vue on Thursday in the first leg of the Premiership Supporters’ Cup Final.

The CFS Filtration Robins are in their first Cup Final since 2007, whilst it is 19 years since they tasted Cup success.

They secured their place by coming out on top in a four-team mini-league earlier in the season, and now take on the Aces who were victorious in the Northern section.

Whilst the Robins also have the Premiership play-offs to look forward to over the coming weeks, this is the final chance for Belle Vue to secure honours in 2019 as they missed out on the top four.

And the first requirement for Alun Rossiter’s side is to keep things close at the National Speedway Stadium, something they have managed on both of their previous visits this season.

Their first trip to Manchester in mid-May saw them just miss out on a league point, going down 41-49, and they then fared slightly better in August, taking a point with a 42-48 outcome.

Both of the Aces’ visits to the Abbey this season have resulted in convincing Swindon victories, so the Robins will be confident of overall success if they can get the first part of the job done.

The second leg is next Thursday (September 19) as the perfect start to British Grand Prix weekend.

Rossiter said: “We’ll be going there in a positive mood, and everyone knows it’s a Final. This is where it gets serious, and we’ll all certainly be up for it.

“I feel we have more than a fair chance of winning overall, and we’ll be trying to win on the night – or if not, keep the points difference as low as possible, which sounds obvious but it’s most important.

“We’ve had some good performances up there before, maybe not quite the best, but decent enough to get close, and we need everyone firing together for this one.

“I’m sure Belle Vue will be fired up as well but the boys all know what they have to do, and we want to bring the tie back to the Abbey with a Cup to win next week.”

Supporters are reminded they can play a part in the meeting as nominations for Heat 14 will be made on the result of a Twitter poll, with each manager putting four riders up for the vote for 15 minutes after Heat 10. Selections can be made at @SwindonSpeedway .
