DOYLE BACK FOR 2020

Thursday November 21, 2019
SWINDON captain and talisman Jason Doyle will be back to lead the club in next season’s Premiership defence.

The CFS Filtration Robins have moved quickly to tie up a deal with the former World Champion, who has been a member of all three of their title-winning squads in the modern era.

After spending a season on-loan at Somerset, Doyle returned to the Abbey in 2019 and was, as ever, a reliable, high-scoring No.1 whilst also having a big influence on the rest of the team as skipper.

And Doyle has also been fulsome in his praise for the track changes which took place this year and led to some spectacular action – with his spectacular efforts to pass Ipswich’s Krystian Pieszczek in a last-heat decider back in July being one of the big highlights of the season.

Now he is targeting making more club history by retaining the league title next year, something which has never previously been achieved at Swindon.

Doyle said: “I am really happy to be back with Swindon, it’s been an awesome club to work with every time I ride for them.

“I get really good support from the fans, and the track is now one of the best in the country, if not the world.

“The people around the pits and track are great to work with - they all want us to win!

“It’s always a tough task to go back-to-back, but with the team Swindon will have for next season I’m sure we will fight once again for the title.”

Robins boss Alun Rossiter admits having his No.1 in place for next season was always top priority, and he says he is clear on his team-building route.

Rossiter said: “Jason is our captain and he leads by example both on and off the track. The other boys fully respect him and he’s never slow to offer advice.

“We did go in a different direction the last time we won the league and had to shed points, and it was clear then that we were lacking that out-and-out No.1.

“That’s something we’ve learnt from, and we also know how popular Jason is with the fans. I’m sure they will be just as pleased as we are to have him back.”
