NEW-LOOK ABBEY MOVES CLOSER

Tuesday January 14, 2020
SWINDON’S long wait for a new Abbey Stadium has finally taken a massive step forward.

Planning permission has, after a long running saga, been granted for work to go ahead on the existing site to provide modern facilities for the reigning Premiership champions along with the Greyhound racing.

CFS Filtration Robins boss Alun Rossiter admits it’s been a long time coming – and the time had flown without having fun on the subject.
“I understand the frustration along the way but there have been a number of reasons and Clarke Osborne from Gaming International was at the planning hearing and was as pleased as myself and Lee Kilby (Swindon co-promoter).

“It’s been nine years. It’s been emotional for so many people, but we now look forward to seeing the developers do their stuff.”

Swindon Speedway would like to thank the constant support of so many people, including Justin Tomlinson MP who has been a driving force behind the project.

The club also look forward to working closely with our landlords at the Abbey, Gaming International, to ensure a smooth transition of the facilities.

Rossiter’s co promoter Lee Kilby added: “We are overwhelmed by this news. It’s a great result and the stadium owners were present at the hearing and spoke positively about the plans.
“All going well the Abbey Stadium should have a new look by the end of 2020.”
