SWINDON speedway boss Alun Rossiter has gone back on the road – to keep himself busy!
Rossiter runs the town’s Southbrook Inn but with pubs currently closed he’s reverted back to truck driving to maintain a structure to his day.
It’s a far cry from last October when he inspired the CFS Filtration Robins to the double in front of big crowds at the Abbey.
“With the pub shut, I’ve gone back on the road as a truck driver to earn a few quid for the time being,†he said.
“I’ve had a day where I’ve been to Worcester and back twice, I’m glad to have some sort of normality. From that perspective life hasn’t changed too much for me.
“But what we all want is normality, or as close as we can get.â€
British Speedway bosses remain ‘cautiously optimistic’ about some league racing this year with a target of August – but there are also issues which will need to be addressed to enable that to happen.
Said Rossiter: “I’m hopeful we will see racing at the Abbey, I can’t offer any certainty of that, but it’s better to hope than just to give up on the season at this time.
“We will continue to keep our supporters updated with developments at the appropriate time.
“There are obstacles to overcome, but we will address them as and when we have to. It would be a shame if we had to wait until 2021 to defend our league and cup double!
“I’d like to wish all CFS Filtration Robins fans the very best, stay safe and well and I look forward to catching up with everyone at the first opportunity.
“I’m missing it badly like everyone else is. It’s so typical the weather has been spot on so far this season and we haven’t been able to race!â€
