Note: Under the 2009 league scoring system, Peterborough score 2 points, Swindon score 1 point.

SWINDON gleaned one Elite league point from Cambridgeshire and took the meeting to a tense last heat decider.

On a grippy race surface, the Robins’ trailed by six points after race thirteen, but a penultimate race 5-1 propelled them back into contention to grab an overall victory.

However, a concluding race 3-3 saw Peterborough maintain their slender advantage and register a 46-44 overall victory.

Swindon contributed six of the meeting’s heat winners, including a race victory for new singing Matej Zagar who amassed a paid seven score from a four ride schedule.

Elsewhere, Robins’ Captain Leigh Adams contributed an even point haul whilst the in form Cory Gathercole continued his impressive scoring run with a well acquired paid ten.

Meanwhile, Travis McGowan collected paid eight from the number two berth whilst Jurica Pavlic notched a score of seven.

Peterborough were well served by their Danish International Niels Iversen whose twelve points included three race wins. Iversen received solid support from compatriots Bjerre, Korneliussen and Hansen as the Panthers secured two Elite League points.

Travis McGowan took victory in the opener and the Australian showed good speed out front to head the chasing pack. A third place for Robins’ Captain Leigh Adams handed Swindon an early two point advantage.

The Peterborough reserve pairing of Hansen and Vissing conjured a heat two 5-1 which swung the early meeting momentum in the Panthers’ favour and provided the Cambridgeshire with a two point lead.

A heat three points share ensued as Mads Korneliussen collected victory with the Robins’ pairing of Pavlic and Stead filling the minor places.

Heat four provided a second successive 3-3 before the lively Swindon pairing of Adams and McGowan levelled the scores with a well worked heat five 4-2.

Peterborough hit back with a 4-2 of their own in heat six via the pairing of Henning Bager and Kenneth Bjerre before the Panthers doubled their advantage in race seven as the Danish duo of Iversen and Vissing combined.

Two successive points share quickly followed in heats eight and nine before the Swindon duo of Pavlic and Gathercole secured a 4-2 in race ten to reduce Peterborough’s lead to two points.

The initial staging of heat eleven saw Panthers’ reserve Claus Vissing excluded for a lap one fall. In the re-staging Peterborough heat leader Niels Iversen collected an impressive victory over Leigh Adams and Travis McGowan.

Swindon fell six points behind as the home side registered successive 4-2 heat advantages in heats twelve and thirteen.

However, a crucial heat fourteen 5-1 from Simon Stead and Cory Gathercole narrowed Peterborough’s lead to just two points.

Leigh Adams took victory in the concluding race but clever team riding from the Peterborough duo of Iversen and Bjerre limited the effectiveness of Jurica Pavlic who was unable to stamp his authority on the race.

The resultant 3-3 maintained Peterborough’s two point margin and esnured both sides took Sky Sports Elite League points from the encounter.
