NOTE: Under the league scoring system introduced for 2009, Swindon gained 3 points and Ipswich received 0.

SWINDON collected all 3 Elite League points on offer as they eased past Ipswich on a night of entertaining Abbey Stadium action.

The Robins led throughout and limited the visiting side to just three heat victories, two of which came from the lively Robert Miskowiak, who was the most impressive Witches’ rider on show.

Swindon’s score-chart was headed by a bumper paid 14-point haul from Simon Stead. The Brit deservedly scooped the man of the match award and could have amassed more points if it hadn’t been for an ignition failure whilst comfortably leading heat fifteen.

Elsewhere, Leigh Adams contributed a characteristically immaculate paid 12-point maximum, whilst fellow heat-leader Matej Zagar notched paid 14.

Travis McGowan registered a well-acquired paid 11 points and once again showed good battling qualities from his second-string role.

The Milduran reserve pairing of Cory Gathercole and Justin Sedgmen were also in the thick of the action and provided the Abbey Stadium terraces with plenty of entertainment.

Gathercole’s rich vein of form continued as the enthusiastic Aussie acquired 8 points from his five-ride schedule. Sedgmen meanwhile, whilst not stamping his authority on the meeting scorecard, contributed a performance laced with excitement and was in the thick of the action throughout.

Indeed, the likeable youngster led for three laps of heat fourteen, but was eventually passed by the chasing pack. Nevertheless, the Australian can take great heart from his senior debut and he certainly impressed all in attendance.

The aforementioned Miskowiak headed the Ipswich chart and the tenacious Pole certainly excelled around Blunsdon. However, support was thin on the ground for him, with only his compatriot Dawid Stachyra offering any kind of real back-up

Swindon held a slender 2-point advantage after heat four, but a middle-meeting surge saw Alun Rossiter’s side conjure an 18-point lead after heat ten.

A further 5-1 in heat thirteen through the dynamic Adams/Zagar partnership opened up a 22-point margin, as Ipswich struggled to compete with Swindon’s top-end force.

A points-share in the penultimate race followed, before Ipswich concluded the meeting with a 4-2 advantage in race fifteen. Stead led for the majority of the heat, but fell on turn one of lap four after suffering mechanical gremlns.

Swindon’s eventual 18-point margin of victory was well-deserved and bolstered their lead in the Sky Sports Elite League table.
