JORDAN Stewart hopes he gets a chance to make 2020 his big breakthrough in speedway.

Aussie ace Stewart signed for Swindon in the winter and had left his bikes in the UK after returning to his home country just before lockdown.

With plans and hopes still in place to get some sort of season starting in August there is no guarantee and all Stewart can do is hope.

“Hopefully we can get the season started in England as I see it as a breakthrough year for me personally,” he said. “I’ve made no secret of the fact I need to be on the bike more and Swindon have given me the chance to do that this season.

“I had a few issues in Poland last season where things didn’t work out and the club I rode for went under owing riders money.

“I want to get back out there as soon as I can but I believe doubling up with Swindon and Redcar is the way forward for me at the minute.”

Redcar are his Second Division club and he raced for them last season. CFS Filtration Robins boss Alun Rossiter has watched his progress and believes he could be a shrewd signing at the Abbey.

“He’s a good rider who has bags of potential,” he said. “He can be a key part of the team this year if we get going and I know how keen he is to make a big impression.

“He sees the chance to ride for the double winners as a major opportunity so it would be a shame if we didn’t get to see him.

“But there are also increasing discussions about the possibility of keeping the same team next year. We’ll see what happens.”
