ELLIS GUTTED AT MISSING FINAL

Thursday September 10, 2020
SWINDON racer Adam Ellis admits he’s ‘gutted’ to miss out on the British Final.

Ipswich will host the showpiece event on Saturday September 26 and Ellis would have been automatically called up for the meeting.

But with his season cruelly ended by a back injury sustained in the Grand Prix Challenge he will have no choice but to sit at home and rest.

“I’m gutted to be missing that meeting because it’s so big and important,” he said. “But I have to rest up for the time the doctors have told me too and you cannot take any risks with an injury like this.

“The priority is for me to be fit again for the start of next season and hit the ground running.”

The total recovery period for Ellis, a vital part of Swindon’s league and cup double winning team last season, will be 12 weeks which means he can step up training for next year in December if all goes well.

“It’s going to be a while, six weeks with a corset and then another six weeks of rehab,” he said. “I’m still in pain every day but it’s getting more tolerable and should improve in the coming weeks.”

Meanwhile CFS Filtration Robins skipper Jason Doyle resumes his Grand Prix campaign in Poland this weekend.

He’s looking for a vast improvement after the disappointment of the opening two rounds in Wroclaw and is already facing a fight for automatic qualification as part of the top six for 2021.

“Doyley is a class act,” said Robins boss Alun Rossiter. “He’s a strong character and he has the ability to bounce back in Gorzow. With back-to-back rounds on a weekend there’s no time to recover but everyone at Swindon Speedway wishes him all the very best this weekend.”

The action once again will be shown live on BT Sport on both Friday and Saturday at 6pm.
