SWINDON youngster Anders Rowe finished an excellent third in Wednesday’s British Under-21 Final at Berwick.

Rowe was one of the four stand-out riders in the meeting and scored 13 points from five rides, courtesy of four wins and a third place in Heat 16 when all four unbeaten riders at that stage clashed.

The Robins rider pulled off one of the rides of the night to surge around Joe Lawlor on the last lap of Heat 12, which left him with a maximum nine points along with Dan Bewley, Leon Flint and Drew Kemp.

The crucial Heat 16 saw Kemp disqualified after crashing when trying to pass Flint, and in the re-run Rowe missed out as Bewley overtook Flint to take the win.

Rowe recovered to win his last ride with a convincing display from the outside against Tom Brennan and Jason Edwards, and he looked well placed for the closing stages of the meeting.

However, the delays caused by a pre-meeting power failure and then incidents during the event meant the result was called after the 20 qualifying races rather than the planned semi-finals and Final.

That meant Bewley was declared Champion with a 15-point maximum with Flint second on 14, whilst Rowe completed the rostrum in third place.

He said: “My first three rides were brilliant, and I shouldn’t really have changed my set-up, but I thought maybe try for a bit of extra speed.

“I went down a sprocket and it wasn’t the best off the line, it took too long to get going and it just zapped the power out of everything. I came back in and said we had to go back to what we had before.

“But it was pretty good. I think I put on quite a good show although Heat 12 was quite scary, I thought I was coming off!

“When I won my last race I thought I could go the Final with a new tyre, the same set-up and maybe jump out of the start and get on the dirt-line.

“So it was a bit disappointing, but third place means I’m on the podium and that’s all I can ask for. It was a good end to the season, and now I can’t wait to get a full season in.”
