ROBINS BACK RISING STAR SCHEME

Thursday February 25, 2021
LEE Kilby believes backing the British rising stars is the way ahead for speedway in the UK.

The Swindon co-promoter is keeping in touch with developments during the 2021 season with the Robins on the sidelines before their planned return in 2022.

He’s also keen to keep in touch with supporters throughout the season with several Swindon favourites in action.

Said Kilby: “The rising stars project is a brilliant work in progress and the success will be seen over the coming years.

“The more young British riders we can expose and enrol on this project the better and the more successful it will prove.

“I want to see us start rebuilding our own assets who will go on to step up from rising stars to established stars and be the headliners of our sport in this country.

“Trust me, having seen plenty of racing at this level over the last few years, there are plenty of talented riders coming through.”

The six remaining Premiership clubs have selected their rising star at the start of a five year project with the possibility of two riders in each team next year.

Boss Alun Rossiter is keen to keep a close watch on the league this year with a view to making his choices next winter.

Belle Vue have signed Tom Brennan, King’s Lynn have announced local rider Ryan Kinsley, Sheffield will use Josh Bates, Peterborough have snapped up 17-year-old Jordan Palin, Ipswich have selected Drew Kemp and Wolverhampton went for late starter Tom Bacon who is 28 this week but has limited professional experience.
